Santa Barbara Shops We Love

One of the best ways to shop sustainably and to support communities is to shop local. The coastal city of Santa Barbara is full of so many GOOD shops, makers, and artisans and it is where Good Ancestor calls home. Here’s a list of our favorites!

Why We Love It:

Westward General is a quaint shop that features a curated bunch of vintage clothing, homewares, and soft goods for the home. Make sure to check out their collection of vintage pottery as well as their selection of handmade wooden bowls and spoons.

Why We Love It:

The Diani boutiques have been a presence in Santa Barbara since 2002 and are located in the Arlington Plaza shopping center just a stone's throw away from Folly. Diani Living is a beautifully curated shop with handmade pillows, table settings, ceramics, and vintage elm wood stools. Owner Caroline Diani’s curation is guided by her philosophy of creating beautiful home spaces while protecting and honoring our environment. She sources from small designers, artisans, and craftspeople who have a commitment to sustainability and who use natural materials.

Why We Love It:

Folly is the sweetest little shop which had its beginnings in an airstream trailer in the backyard of Porch, but now calls the Arlington Plaza home. Owner Alyssa Habermann stocks the shop with books, clothing, ceramics, pillows, and apothecary goods with most of them being vintage or handcrafted in California. You can find handmade olive wood spoons, beautiful ceramic vessels, and gorgeous artisan made baskets. They also have a kids corner with goods for our little ones!

Why We Love It:

Domecíl is an amazing socially responsible shop tucked away in the charming Victoria Court of downtown Santa Barbara and is home to many ethically sourced and sustainable home goods from around the world. Owner Stephanie Payne-Campbell’s curated collection highlights textiles, ceramics, wood works, fine arts, and in house designed Japanese inspired clothing. Stop by the shop and pick up wood cutting boards, linen aprons, or handmade baskets as gifts or for the home!

Why We Love It:

Rooms and Gardens is a lovely Santa Barbara shop that has been in business for over 20 years. They carry a wide selection of textiles, baskets, trays, and coastal decor items. Many of their pieces are made from sustainable materials like jute, cotton, rattan or are antiques which are good for the planet!

Why We Love It:

Jake and Jones is a mindfully curated women’s boutique located in the heart of downtown’s presidio district. Owner Jennifer Steinwurtzel is committed to sourcing all items in the shop from designers and makers who have sustainable and eco friendly practices. In addition to her selection of women’s clothing, the shop also carries charming home goods and gifts.

Why We Love It:

Habitat Home and Garden is a one of a kind home furnishing store. Owner Tony Schaar sources their eclectic and soulful pieces from around the world with an emphasis on furnishings with traditional craftsmanship and created with sustainable resources. If you are looking to invest in some statement pieces, this is the place to go!

Why We Love It:

The Blue Door is located downtown in the Funkzone nestled between hip restaurants and wine tasting rooms. The three story shop is home to a diverse array of vintage mid century modern furniture and decor. The shop features items from multiple dealers but is curated in the funky cool style of owners Brian Garwood and Carolyn Petersen. We love their handmade ceramics, vintage and up-cycled textiles, and fine artwork selection. Everything in the shop is strictly authentically vintage or locally handmade so you see something you love, make sure to snag it because you won’t see it twice!

Why We Love It:

Porch is one of those places that nails the quintessential California coastal look through its airy linens, indoor outdoor living feel, and use of natural materials. Located in the beachy neighborhood of Summerland, Owner Diana Dolan has filled her shop with amazing artwork by local artists, kitchen ceramics, bedding, textiles, furniture, and small home decor pieces. For those with a green thumb, they also carry a selection of succulents and other indoor plants in addition to outdoor furnishings.

Why We Love It:

The Well is the outdoor garden-centered sibling of Culver City’s Big Daddy’s Antiques. Owner Shane Brown features up-cycled garden furnishings and decor, antique fountains and planters, and gorgeous outdoor furniture perfect for entertaining a garden party! Many of the furnishings are made of natural and sustainable materials or are vintage, so you know you are shopping for the good of our environment!

Why We Love It:

Botanik is a boutique home and garden store located in a charming beach cottage. You will find teak furniture, garden stools, and vessels throughout. The shop is stocked with gorgeous succulent arrangements, olive topiaries, and fiddle leaf fig trees. For those who don't have a green thumb (yet), there are plenty of pieces you can find that bring the indoor outdoor living feel to your space!

Upstairs Pierre Lafond has been a mainstay in Montecito’s upper village since 1981. They have a beautifully curated selection of goods from books, linens, luxurious blankets, candles, ceramic vessels, and they highlight original artwork from local Santa Barbara artists. Make sure to check out their selection of kitchenware, handmade dishes, and linens for the home. And if you need a pick me up while you’re shopping, there’s a deli and coffee shop downstairs!

Lucca Antiques is a massive antique showroom located in Montecito’s old firehouse. Owners Susan and Steven Keeney have filled the space with one of a kind European antiques made from metal, wood, natural stone, and found materials. Their philosophy is to embrace the imperfections and patina of the pieces because their history is what makes them beautiful. This is the place to go if you are seeking an investment piece for your space.

Why We Love It:

William Laman furniture and antiques has provided Montecito with sourced antiques from around the world. Owners Bruce Gregga and William Laman have a carefully curated selection of pieces with an emphasis on form, function, and simplicity. Their current collection highlights natural materials like wicker, wood, rush, and bamboo mixed with some show stopping pieces.

Heritage Goods and Supply is a homestead concept store created by friends Ashley Moore, Lauren Malloy, and Emma Moore. The shop carries a plethora of books, handmade ceramics, artisan made tools, and beekeeping goods. They also host numerous workshops and community based events like woodcarving, raising backyard chickens, and pickling vegetables. There’s something for everyone!
